The English Dramatics Club of Loyola School, Jamshedpur, hosted its much-anticipated Inter-Class Skit Competition – “Spotlight” on 4 November 2025, at the Fasy Auditorium. The event, a confluence of literature, creativity, and youthful energy, brought together the artistic prowess of over 120 students from Standard IX.
The event commenced with the gracious presence of the judges—Mr. Siddharth Sen, Mrs. Jayshree Sharma and Mrs. Agnes Boyle—esteemed educators and connoisseurs of English and Dramatics. The stage transformed into a literary mosaic, as five classes brought alive timeless tales from English literature.
Class 9A opened the performances with Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, evoking the pathos of poverty and the triumph of virtue over adversity. Class 9B transported the audience to a sepia-toned 1990s setting with The Boy Who Broke the Bank by Ruskin Bond, highlighting the innocence of gossip and its unintended consequences. Class 9C’s adaptation of Homecoming by Rabindranath Tagore captured the tender ache of nostalgia and belonging. Class 9D delighted spectators with Oscar Wilde’s The Model Millionaire, a witty yet humane portrayal of generosity and moral wealth. The finale, Class 9E’s rendition of Bonku Babu’s Friend by Satyajit Ray, charmed viewers with its blend of science fiction and childlike wonder, underscoring the value of imagination.
The performances—spanning genres of tragedy, comedy, and fantasy—reflected the Jesuit ideal of holistic education, nurturing intellect, empathy, and creativity. Under the guidance of their teacher-mentors and senior student volunteers from Grades XI and XII, the participants presented visually stunning and technically seamless productions, complete with exquisite costumes and evocative background scores.
Team 9B emerged as the champion, guided by Ms. Aditi Roy Mukherjee, while 9D and 9E secured the second and third positions under Ms. Nitu Nair and Ms. Gloria Gomes, respectively. Ishan Singh was adjudged Best Actor and Swastika Soumya received the Best Actress award.
The event was graced by Fr. Michael Thanaraj, Rector; Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Principal; Fr. Victor Misquith, former Principal; and Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri, Vice-Principal. Fr. Michael, shared his thoughts on the event. He expressed how he didn’t even realise when the two hours had passed, as each performance was so engaging and entertaining. Fr. Michael appreciated the remarkable creativity of the students and remarked that such artistic expression and teamwork should be encouraged even more in the future. In his concluding address, Father Vinod Fernandes emphasized the importance of drama in shaping confident, expressive, and empathetic individuals. The event culminated in a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, marking a day that celebrated not just performance, but the power of storytelling itself.
